SSA congratulates Bristol’s Lord Mayor for 2026
Councillor Yassin Mohamud will be Bristol’s Lord Mayor from 2026 to 2027. Mohamud, who was born in Somalia and fled to the UK as a refugee twenty years ago, has a background in environmentalism and worked as an assistant researcher in agriculture. He has represented the Lawrence Hill ward since 2021. As the first Black, Muslim Lord Mayor from the Somali community, he aims to use his position to foster a more cohesive Bristol, celebrate its diversity, and ensure all communities feel valued and recognized. His public service is guided by listening, serving, and collaborating to create a city of opportunity for everyone.
