Breaking Barriers: Empowering Women in Sports

Breaking barriers for women in sports involves increasing visibility, equal pay, and opportunities for participation and leadership. This includes a “see it, be it” principle where female role models inspire girls, and programs that provide mentorship, leadership training, and support for women-led initiatives. Ultimately, it means creating a more inclusive environment on and off the field to ensure gender equality.

Promote media coverage of women’s sports and create more opportunities for women to participate, such as on mixed-race teams or in practice sessions.

Establish formal and informal mentoring programs and provide leadership training to empower women to become role models and decision-makers in the sports industry.

Create supportive environments that address specific barriers, such as providing sanitary hygiene solutions and making facilities more inclusive.

Work with non-profit organizations to develop programs that remove barriers for girls’ participation in sports and build capacity for local leaders.

Use the power of sport to challenge harmful gender norms and raise awareness about gender equality through community-level programs and storytelling.
